Airlines Cut Summer Flights by 10%
29 Mar
Summary
- Airlines will operate 10% fewer flights this summer compared to last year.
- Safety concerns follow IndiGo's major disruptions in December 2025.
- The summer schedule runs from March 29 to October 24.

Airlines are scheduled to operate at least 10% fewer domestic flights this summer compared to the previous year. The summer schedule, effective from March 29 to October 24, reflects a more cautious approach by civil aviation authorities.
This reduction is a direct response to the extensive flight cancellations that affected IndiGo in December 2025. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is adopting a moderate stance in approving flight services, considering factors like aircraft and pilot availability.
During the 2025 summer schedule, approximately 25,610 weekly flights were operated. A 10% decrease suggests a reduction of about 2,561 services, bringing the total to around 23,049 weekly flights for the current period.
Authorities have emphasized that more flights can be approved once airlines increase their fleet capacity and secure adequate pilots. The Middle East conflict, which began on February 28, has also introduced new operational complexities, impacting the overall flight planning.
