Air India has revealed the updated cabin interiors and new livery for its first retrofitted Boeing 787-8 aircraft. The plane underwent extensive upgrades at Boeing's facility in California. This modernization is part of a $400 million plan to enhance the airline's fleet. The revamped aircraft now features a three-class configuration, aligning with Air India's latest widebody standards, with 20 private suites in Business Class, 25 Premium Economy seats, and 205 Economy Class seats.
The retrofit program for the first Boeing 787 took over 45 days and involved meticulous cabin reconfigurations, seat installations, and exterior painting. Air India plans to retrofit 25 additional Boeing 787 aircraft over the next year, with two already undergoing the process. The airline expects the entire B787 retrofit program to be completed by 2027, significantly upgrading passenger experience on over 300 weekly flights to the United Kingdom, Europe, and Australia. Furthermore, 13 legacy B777-300ER aircraft will also undergo retrofitting.
