Summary
- Air India flight AI111 to London made a precautionary return to Delhi.
- The A350 aircraft experienced a suspected technical issue over Saudi Arabia.
- This is the second such technical incident for the aircraft this month.

Air India flight AI111, an A350-900 aircraft, made a precautionary return to Delhi on Thursday afternoon due to a suspected technical issue. The flight, en route to London Heathrow, was airborne for approximately seven hours before landing back in the national capital. The diversion occurred while the plane was flying over Saudi Arabian airspace, about four hours into its journey.
Sources indicated that noises were heard on board, prompting the decision to divert. This particular aircraft, VT-JRF, had previously faced a technical issue on March 15, leading to its diversion to Shannon, Ireland, on a flight from New York to Delhi.
An Air India spokesperson confirmed the safe landing and stated the aircraft is undergoing extensive technical evaluations as per the airline's safety standards. The spokesperson also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers and assured that the airline is working to facilitate their onward journey to London as soon as possible. Air India began operating its A350-900 fleet in January 2024.
