Air India Caps Fares Amidst IndiGo Chaos

Air India has implemented a cap on economy class fares for all non-stop domestic flights, effective from December 4, to shield travelers from sudden price increases. While the airline is addressing issues with third-party platforms, it clarifies that complex itineraries may still see price variations. This proactive measure aims to stabilize domestic air travel costs for passengers seeking affordable options.

In stark contrast, IndiGo experienced significant operational disruptions on Saturday, leading to the cancellation of over 100 flights nationwide. Thousands of passengers were left stranded at major airports, including Hyderabad, Delhi, and Kolkata, due to these widespread cancellations. The airline is facing immense pressure to manage the fallout from these operational challenges.

Responding to the crisis, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has mandated IndiGo to process all pending passenger refunds by Sunday evening. Furthermore, airlines are prohibited from levying any rescheduling charges on passengers affected by flight cancellations, with non-compliance potentially leading to regulatory action.
