Routine jobs in India's global capability centers (GCCs) are facing increasing pressure from AI and automation. A report by Quess Corp highlights a significant shift away from transactional roles towards specialized, digital business functions. In 2025, procurement roles experienced the sharpest demand decline of 41.7%, followed by analytics (37.9%), customer support (34.5%), and finance and risk (32.8%).
Factors such as automation, centralization, and work redesign around digital tools are driving these changes. Transactional procurement is increasingly automated, and customer support is moving towards self-service and digital operations. Despite the decline in routine positions, overall non-tech GCC hiring expanded by 49.2% in 2025, reaching 339,200 roles.
This trend is projected to continue through 2026-28, with an expected rise in demand for business operations and transformation roles. Emerging opportunities are also appearing in AI adoption, such as AI change management and responsible AI advisory. Bengaluru remains the largest GCC hub, though Mumbai, Pune, and Hyderabad are experiencing faster growth.
