AI Bubble Risk: Investor Warns of Recession Trigger
28 Oct
Summary
- Investor warns of excessive money in few tech names.
- AI sector concentration could trigger a recession if a startup fails.
- AI investments significantly boost S&P 500 earnings per share.

Steve Eisman, an investor famed for predicting the 2008 mortgage crisis, has voiced concerns about the current stock market's heavy reliance on artificial intelligence.
He noted that approximately 70% of Nvidia's receivables come from just five clients, and major AI labs like OpenAI and Anthropic account for about 70% of hyperscalers' AI revenue. Eisman fears that the failure of one key AI startup could destabilize the entire market.
Despite these risks, Eisman does not foresee a crisis as severe as 2008. He pointed out that AI capital expenditures have substantially benefited various sectors, contributing nearly 50% of S&P 500 earnings per share growth through September 2026.
While the S&P 500 has shown resilience and strong long-term returns, averaging around 15.3% annually over the last decade, potential AI bubble risks remain. Investors are advised to consider diverse investment strategies beyond index funds for potentially higher returns.
