AI Agents to Replace Entry-Level Workers
16 Mar
Summary
- AI adoption could lead to mid-30% graduate unemployment.
- ServiceNow AI tools eliminated 90% of customer service cases.
- White-collar jobs like coding and marketing are also affected.

ServiceNow CEO Bill McDermott has forecasted significant challenges for recent graduates entering the workforce. He anticipates that AI adoption, particularly agentic AI, could drive graduate unemployment to as high as 35% within a few years. As of late 2025, the unemployment rate for recent graduates already stood at 5.7%.
McDermott explained that the increasing reliance on AI agents means fewer opportunities for young people to distinguish themselves in the corporate world. This disruption extends beyond entry-level positions, impacting knowledge work sectors such as coding and marketing, marking a departure from previous industrial revolutions that primarily affected manual labor.
Other industry leaders are also signaling shifts. Palantir CEO Alex Karp has outlined plans to drastically reduce headcount while increasing revenue. Similarly, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has indicated expectations of a shrinking company workforce. ServiceNow's own AI technologies have reportedly automated around 90% of tasks previously handled by human customer service agents, underscoring the rapid advancement and integration of AI in business operations. The company recently reported a 25% year-over-year increase in revenue.
