AI Reshapes Jobs: Gains in Tech, Losses in Admin
2 Sep
Summary
- US economy to add 5.9 million jobs by 2035, slower growth expected.
- Healthcare, tech, and renewable energy sectors to lead job growth.
- Office support, sales, and production jobs to see reduced demand due to automation.

The U.S. job market is set for a significant transformation over the next decade, with projections indicating the addition of 5.9 million jobs by 2035. This growth, however, is expected to be slower than in the preceding ten years. Total employment is forecast to rise from 170.3 million to 176.2 million workers.
Key sectors poised for substantial gains include healthcare, technology, and renewable energy. The rise of artificial intelligence is fueling demand for roles in data analysis, cybersecurity, and software development. Conversely, the Bureau of Labor Statistics anticipates that increased automation will diminish the need for many administrative, office support, and production positions.
Administrative roles, such as clerks and data entry specialists, are predicted to experience the sharpest decline, with an estimated 4% drop in employment. This is attributed to the growing integration of AI-powered automation tools. Other sectors expected to see job losses include sales, farming, fishing, and forestry.
