Summary
- Aged care nurses will receive a fifth award wage increase this year.
- Registered nurses' annual salaries rose by over $36,000.
- Australia needs an additional 35,000 aged-care workers.

Aged-care nurses are slated to receive a fifth significant increase to their award wages this year, marking the final phase of a Fair Work Commission determination.
This government-backed increase, effective from August 1, means that registered nurses on the most common pay level will experience an annual salary augmentation exceeding $36,000. Similarly, enrolled nurses at the most common level and pay point will see their yearly earnings climb by nearly $32,000.
Aged Care Minister Sam Rae highlighted the positive impact, stating that improved pay is crucial for attracting and retaining nursing staff. This initiative aims to ensure older Australians receive higher-quality and more consistent care.
These wage improvements come amid internal departmental documents indicating Australia's projected need for an additional 35,000 aged-care workers within the current financial year, driven by an aging population and increased demand for support services.
