- The company, Birla Group Holdings Pvt. Ltd, applied for the registration in September 2019.
- The Reserve Bank of India granted the registration on November 18, 2025.

The Aditya Birla Group's promoter entity, Birla Group Holdings Pvt. Ltd (BGHPL), has successfully obtained its Core Investment Company (CIC) registration from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), concluding a six-year process. BGHPL, responsible for stakes in 11 listed group companies valued at over ₹92,000 crore, first applied for the crucial registration in September 2019.
Navigating regulatory hurdles, BGHPL underwent significant restructuring, including the merger of six privately held companies. The RBI had concerns regarding the group's layered structure, requiring a flatter organization with a maximum of two CIC layers. This process involved multiple application submissions and resubmissions, with the RBI returning the application in March 2025 pending compliance with shareholding structure regulations.
Ultimately, the RBI granted the CIC registration to BGHPL on November 18, 2025. This achievement comes as Tata Sons, another major conglomerate, seeks to surrender its own CIC registration. BGHPL's status as a middle-layer NBFC means it is not currently subject to listing requirements, unlike upper-layer NBFCs, unless its assets exceed ₹1 trillion.
