Summary
- ADB plans $1 billion in private sector funding for India this year.
- Focus areas include clean energy, green hydrogen, and e-mobility.
- Trade finance surged 40% due to West Asia crisis in early 2026.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced its intention to sustain its significant private sector funding in India, targeting approximately $1 billion for 2026. This commitment underscores India's position as the bank's largest market for private sector operations. The funding will support projects directly contributing to India's development objectives.
ADB's Vice-President Bhargav Dasgupta indicated that renewable and clean energy, green hydrogen, e-mobility, and green data centers are primary segments for continued financing. Urban infrastructure, sustainable agriculture, and financial inclusion also remain focal points, reflecting a close alignment with the Indian government's priorities.
The bank is also observing a notable increase in trade and supply chain financing. This sector experienced a 40% jump in the initial four months of 2026, largely influenced by the West Asia crisis. This financing is crucial for ensuring the import of essential commodities like fertilizer, energy, and food for numerous countries.
Recent initiatives include partnerships to strengthen supply chain finance in India. Agreements with Standard Chartered Bank, facilitated through GIFT City, aim to support both US dollar and rupee transactions, with a particular focus on distributor financing, marking ADB's first engagement in this specific area within the Indian market.
