Acerta Energy has agreed to acquire its rival, Astara Energy, in a transaction valued at approximately $91.55 million, including assumed net debt. This acquisition, approved by both companies' boards and Astara's shareholders, is expected to significantly boost Acerta's operated, liquids-rich production in Alberta, Canada. The deal will add about 5,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) to Acerta's output, increasing its total corporate production by approximately 67%.
Following the acquisition, Acerta's production is projected to be roughly 60% liquids and 50% crude oil. The acquired assets are concentrated in southern and east-central Alberta and the Peace River Arch region, with approximately 94% of production being operated by Acerta. CEO Robert Brady stated that the acquisition effectively doubles their oil production and diversifies development opportunities.
Independent reviews indicate that the acquired assets hold proved reserves of 18.1 million barrels of oil equivalent with a net present value of C$282.4 million. The transaction includes significant tax pools and is expected to generate annualised net operating income of around C$70 million. Funding for the acquisition comes from an increase in Acerta's senior secured bond, cash on hand, and working capital financing. The acquisition is anticipated to be completed in September 2026, pending regulatory approvals.
