Former Indian Air Force Group Captain Abhinandan Varthaman has joined the regional airline FLY91 as a commercial pilot. Varthaman, who gained international recognition after the 2019 aerial conflict between India and Pakistan, began his association with the Goa-based airline in August. Varthaman is currently training on the Goa-Hyderabad route, with plans to operate an ATR aircraft upon completion of his training and regulatory clearances. His fame surged following the February 27, 2019, aerial engagement where his MiG-21 Bison was shot down, leading to his brief captivity in Pakistan. Awarded the Vir Chakra in 2021, Varthaman has largely stayed out of the public eye. This move signifies his return to the cockpit, this time for civilian passengers.
