Aviation Defects Soar: 352 Technical Faults Reported This Year

As of June 2026, 352 significant technical defects have been reported in domestic and international flight operations. The majority of these, 334, relate to domestic services. Akasa Air recorded the highest number of defects with 152, followed by Air India Express (53) and IndiGo (47).
Further data indicates that Air India reported 46 defects, SpiceJet 9, Star Air 29, and Fly91, India One Air, and Blue Dart also reported defects. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been active, issuing 382 show cause notices for safety violations from January to June 2026.
The DGCA also undertook enforcement actions, including financial penalties and suspensions, against scheduled airlines for major safety violations between 2023 and 2025. A comprehensive special audit was conducted following a circular on June 19, 2025, in response to a fatal Air India crash on June 12 last year.
