Buckinghamshire Council has greenlit a new £1bn data centre development adjacent to Pinewood Studios, a site renowned for producing iconic films such as The Avengers, James Bond, and Star Wars. The approved plans feature a substantial 55,030 sq m facility, representing a major investment in digital infrastructure.
This ambitious project is anticipated to yield considerable economic benefits, with projections estimating an annual contribution of £125m to the economy. During its construction phase, the development is expected to create around 1,300 full-time equivalent jobs.
Beyond the data centre, the proposal includes the creation of a 60-acre nature reserve and a six-acre community garden, offering educational spaces. Upon becoming operational, the facility is slated to provide approximately 235 permanent jobs. While local councils expressed varied opinions, with some raising concerns about environmental impact, the project has ultimately received approval.
