Broadway Closure: 6 Months for SkyTrain Speed-Up
7 May
Summary
- Broadway in Vancouver faces a six-month closure starting this summer.
- The closure aims to reduce construction time around Broadway-City Hall station.
- The SkyTrain extension project is slated for a fall 2027 opening.

Broadway in Vancouver is set for a significant six-month closure beginning this summer, impacting traffic between Alberta and Cambie streets. This closure is a crucial step in accelerating construction for the Millennium Line SkyTrain extension around the Broadway-City Hall station.
Drivers will need to use West 8th Avenue as a detour during this period. Transportation Minister Mike Farnworth stated that this concentrated effort will shorten the construction timeline in this area from 14 months to six. Pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained throughout the closure.
This upcoming closure is expected to be the last major disruption on Broadway for the project. Separately, a previous closure between Main and Quebec streets is concluding ahead of schedule, with one lane reopening on May 20, 2026. The entire Broadway corridor is slated to fully reopen in July 2026, two months earlier than originally planned.
The nearly $3-billion SkyTrain extension project commenced construction in 2020 and is now projected to open in the fall of 2027. This new line will extend the Millennium Line by 5.7 kilometres.
