Ticketmaster Vows Transparent Pricing After Oasis Ticket Controversy
26 Sep, 2025
Summary
- Ticketmaster criticized for selling 'platinum tickets' at 2.5x 'standard' price
- Fans not informed of price hikes as cheaper tickets sold out
- Ticketmaster now required to disclose pricing details 24 hours before sales
In September 2025, Ticketmaster faced intense scrutiny over its sales tactics for Oasis reunion tickets. The ticket selling giant was criticized by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) for selling 'platinum tickets' at nearly two and a half times the price of 'standard' tickets, despite them being in the same seating areas.
Oasis fans were also not informed that ticket prices would rise as the cheaper options sold out, sparking outrage and a CMA investigation. Now, Ticketmaster has made sweeping commitments to improve transparency and provide customers with clear pricing information.
Going forward, Ticketmaster must inform fans at least 24 hours in advance if tiered pricing will be used, and update queuing customers on the range of prices available and when cheaper tickets sell out. The company must also accurately describe tickets and avoid misleading labels. Ticketmaster will be closely monitored over the next two years to ensure compliance, with the CMA warning of further action if the commitments are not upheld.
