SpaceX Homes Damaged? Lawsuit Alleges Starship Test Flights Caused Havoc
2 May
Summary
- Over 70 Texas residents are suing SpaceX over alleged property damage.
- Lawsuit claims Starship test flights caused noise, vibrations, and sonic booms.
- Property damage allegedly occurred during 11 SpaceX test flights since April 2023.

More than 70 Texas residents are pursuing legal action against Elon Musk's SpaceX, claiming that Starship rocket operations have caused significant damage to their homes. The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Brownsville, Texas, asserts that noise and vibrations from test flights have impacted properties near the Starbase facility.
According to the complaint, 11 SpaceX-led test flights between April 2023 and October 2025 generated extreme acoustic energy, including sonic booms. SpaceX, valued at $1.75 trillion, allegedly failed to adequately study the flights' environmental impact, proceeding with launches despite a high likelihood of property damage. The plaintiffs contend the company acted with "conscious indifference to the rights, safety, or welfare of others."
The Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket system stands approximately 400 feet tall and generates over 16 million pounds of thrust during its operations. SpaceX has been developing its South Texas coastal site into a large industrial complex to support high-volume rocket production.
