Tank Maker Probes 2013 Qatar Deal Amid Probe
29 Apr
Summary
- KNDS launched investigation into a 2013 Qatar defense contract.
- No evidence of criminal misconduct by KNDS employees found.
- Audit of 2025 financial statements expected in May.

KNDS, the prominent German-French tank manufacturer, is currently investigating a legacy transaction with the Qatar armed forces that originated in 2013. The contracts in question, originally managed by KNDS predecessor Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, involved the procurement of numerous PzH 2000 artillery systems and Leopard 2 tanks, alongside other defense and training equipment.
As of the current date, the ongoing investigation, which is reportedly well advanced, has not uncovered any evidence suggesting criminal misconduct by KNDS employees, either past or present. Despite this, the investigation has cast a shadow over the company's planned stock market listing, as auditor PwC has withheld approval of its 2025 annual accounts due to the enquiry.
The reported focus of the investigation centers on allegations of multi-million-euro commission payments linked to the 2013 arms deal, which was valued at 1.89 billion euros. These payments allegedly benefited a consultancy controlled by a Qatari general. KNDS expects the 2025 financial statements and their audit to be finalized by May.
