India has successfully managed the impact of the West Asia crisis on its fertilizer supply. Urea production for March-April reached 3.74 million tonnes, a level comparable to the previous year.
To address any potential shortfalls for the kharif season, the government has secured 3.7 million tonnes of imported urea. This proactive measure ensures continued availability.
Overall fertilizer availability, including domestic production and imports, stands strong. From March to April, total fertilizer production reached 6.23 million tonnes, with an additional 1.53 million tonnes imported, bringing the total availability to approximately 7.8 million tonnes during this period.
Stocks for the upcoming kharif 2026 season are robust, with current reserves at 19.33 MT against a requirement of 39.04 MT. This signifies robust planning, advanced stocking, and efficient logistics managed by the government. Maximum retail prices for fertilizers have remained unchanged.
