CIL Powers Up Gujarat with 100 MW Solar
6 May
Summary
- State-owned CIL commissioned a 100 MW solar power project in Gujarat.
- The project received its commissioning certificate on March 31, 2026.
- CAG had previously criticized CIL for slow solar project development.

State-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) announced on Tuesday the successful operationalization of a 100 MW solar power project located in Gujarat. The company confirmed receipt of the commissioning certificate from the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA), with the project effective from March 31, 2026.
This advancement marks a key step in CIL's expanding renewable energy efforts. However, it follows a critical review by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in December. The CAG noted that by December 2024, CIL and its subsidiaries had only installed 122.492 MW of solar capacity, far short of their 3,000 MW target.
The CAG urged CIL to accelerate the development of its solar power projects to transition towards becoming a Net Zero energy company. The 100 MW Gujarat project signifies progress in this direction.
