Vidya Balan, the National Award-winning Bollywood actress, is entering a new phase in her career. After two decades of powerful performances, the acclaimed star is now seeking fresh, fun roles that prioritize entertainment over intensity.
In a recent interview, Balan opened up about her evolving preferences. "For me today, a 'good role' is something I haven't done before -- something fresh, something that feels new to me," she shared. The actress, who has been celebrated for her female-led narratives and boundary-pushing characters, now finds herself craving a different energy. "I keep telling people, 'I want to do a comedy! Something light-hearted, something goofy!' I genuinely want to entertain," Balan added.
Acknowledging the richness of her past filmography, the actress emphasized that she's in a phase where she wants to approach her work with a sense of fun. "Over the past two decades, I've done all kinds of roles and stories, and I'm deeply grateful for that. But the phase I'm in right now -- I want to do roles and films that I've not done before. Even if it's a female-led film, I want to approach it with a sense of fun," she explained.
As a viewer, Balan's preferences have also shifted. "I don't enjoy watching anything that feels too heavy or intense or makes me think too much. So yes -- Priyadarshan, Anees Bazmee... more of that energy," she said, indicating her desire for more comedic and light-hearted narratives.
