'The Goonies' Sequel Moves Forward with Promising First Draft

According to the latest updates, the highly anticipated sequel to the 1980s cult classic 'The Goonies' is steadily moving forward. The film's writer, Potsy Ponciroli, recently shared that he has completed a first draft of the script, which was "very well received" by the production team.

Ponciroli, who describes himself as the "biggest fan" of the original movie, is now working on a second draft and is approximately 95% done with it. He acknowledged the inevitable online skepticism about a sequel to such an adored classic, but emphasized his commitment to treating the project with the utmost care and respect.

"I know there's a lot of 'do we need a new Goonies'," Ponciroli said, "but I'm the biggest fan of the original, it's my favourite movie of all time. I'd never 'redo' The Goonies. To me it was a story that never ended so this is the movie I want to see as one of its biggest fans."

While the writer is optimistic about the sequel's progress, a director for the project has not yet been revealed. The original 'Goonies' was directed by Richard Donner and produced by Steven Spielberg, who are both involved in the sequel as producers.

The 1985 film, which launched the careers of young actors like Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, and Corey Feldman, has remained a beloved classic of '80s pop culture. Fans have long expressed interest in a sequel, and it seems that their wishes may soon be granted.
