The Telluride Film Festival has unveiled its lineup for the 52nd edition, set to take place from August 29 to September 1, 2025. The festival will showcase a diverse mix of world premieres, international debuts, and awards-season hopefuls from some of cinema's most acclaimed auteurs.
Among the buzziest titles in the main program are the world premieres of Chloé Zhao's Shakespearean-set drama "Hamnet," Edward Berger's psychological thriller "Ballad of a Small Player," and Scott Cooper's music biopic "Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere." The festival will also feature films from the recent Venice Film Festival, including Yorgos Lanthimos' "Bugonia," Noah Baumbach's "Jay Kelly," and Paolo Sorrentino's "La Grazia."
The festival's 2025 Silver Medallion awards, known as the Festival Tributes, will go to directors Noah Baumbach, Ethan Hawke, and Jafar Panahi, each accompanied by on-stage conversations and screenings of their latest works. Festival executive director Julie Huntsinger emphasized the artistic significance of Panahi's latest effort, "It Was Just an Accident," stating, "You can't deny this movie. It's so important, and he's so important."
Huntsinger also highlighted standout performances from the festival's lineup, including Jodie Foster's "flawless French" in Rebecca Zlotowski's "A Private Life," Emma Stone's "something beyond, beyond, beyond" in Yorgos Lanthimos' "Bugonia," and Colin Farrell's "tender, special human being" in Edward Berger's "Ballad of a Small Player." The festival director believes this year's Telluride slate may signal an unusually competitive run for best actor at the Oscars.
