Summary
- Freddie Gibbs calls out Gunna at 2025 MTV VMAs
- Gibbs accuses Gunna of being a "rat" over RICO trial
- Ongoing feud between the two rappers since 2020

The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards were marked by a heated confrontation between rappers Freddie Gibbs and Gunna. According to reports, Gibbs spotted Gunna sitting close to his section at the event and immediately took to social media to call him out.
In a series of Instagram Stories, Gibbs is seen singing along to Ricky Martin's "Livin' La Vida Loca" with a caption that reads "2 n****s that never ratted." This was a clear reference to the ongoing RICO trial involving Gunna's former collaborator, Young Thug, who has publicly disavowed Gunna for taking an Alford plea deal.
Gibbs then zooms in on the back of Gunna's head, calling him a "rat bastard." He also overlays a clip from his own song "Lavish Habits," in which he raps, "I'm still gon' squeeze Akademiks titties, that fat bastard/ Gunna dissed me and took a plea, he a rat bastard."

The feud between Gibbs and Gunna dates back to 2020, when Gibbs criticized Gunna for appearing on Crime Stoppers. Gunna later fired back with the track "poochie down," rapping, "I can't fuck with Freddie Gibbs (No) / N****s tellin' fibs."
As the drama unfolded at the 2025 VMAs, Gunna remained silent, likely focusing on the aftermath of the RICO trial that has engulfed his former YSL crew. Young Thug, in particular, has been dealing with the fallout, with several jail calls leaking to the public. Despite the ongoing legal issues, Thug has stated that he is "moving forward."
