23 Jul
Summary
- 'Maalik' had a decent start but saw a significant drop in business
- 'Saiyaara' featuring newcomers crosses ₹150 crore in debut week
- 'Maalik' made only ₹24.2 crore in 12 days

In the recent Bollywood box office battle, Rajkummar Rao's gritty gangster drama 'Maalik' has struggled to maintain its momentum, while the newcomer-led film 'Saiyaara' has emerged as the surprise winner.
'Maalik' had a decent start, earning ₹3.75 crore on its opening Friday, followed by ₹5.25 crore each on Saturday and Sunday. However, the movie's business saw a significant drop as it approached the second week, with the second weekend collection dipping to around ₹2 crore. By the end of its 12-day run, 'Maalik' had managed to earn only ₹24.2 crore.
In contrast, the debutant-led film 'Saiyaara,' which released last Friday (July 18), has been enjoying a reign at the box office. Within days of its release, the movie featuring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda has crossed the ₹150 crore mark and is expected to make more by the end of its debut week.
The stark difference in the performance of these two films highlights the changing dynamics of the Bollywood box office, where newcomers can sometimes outshine established stars.
