Summary
- Coolie expected to earn over ₹350 crore, but now heading for less than ₹290 crore
- Tamil version to conclude run much below ₹190 crore mark
- Film facing bigger drops than expected due to mixed word-of-mouth

As of 2025-09-11T12:21:04+00:00, Rajinikanth's highly anticipated film Coolie has failed to live up to expectations at the Indian box office. Released amid immense hype, the film was expected to make record-breaking earnings, but it has now emerged as one of the biggest underperformers for the superstar in the post-COVID era.
Prior to its release, Coolie was expected to earn over ₹350 crore net at the Indian box office. However, the film's performance has been disappointing, and it is now heading towards a lifetime collection of less than ₹290 crore. In the original Tamil version, the film is set to conclude its run much below the ₹190 crore mark, lagging significantly behind the previous Rajinikanth release, Jailer, which earned ₹268.87 crore net in Tamil.
The film's strong pre-release buzz and mind-blowing start initially justified the high expectations, but the mixed word-of-mouth that set in from the second day led to much bigger drops than anticipated. After spending almost four weeks in theaters, Coolie has now emerged as one of the biggest underperformers for Rajinikanth in the recent past.
