Pete Davidson Slams "Terrible" Audience at SNL's 50th Anniversary Special
7 Aug
Summary
- SNL50 had the biggest broadcast in the show's history
- Pete Davidson called the star-studded audience "terrible"
- Davidson sat next to Meryl Streep during the event

In a recent interview, Saturday Night Live alum Pete Davidson revealed that the audience at the show's 50th-anniversary special was the "worst" he had ever experienced. The milestone broadcast, which aired last month, was the biggest in SNL's history, bringing together current cast members and legendary alumni. However, Davidson, who has been on the show for the past eight years, said the star-studded crowd was unimpressed.
"It's a terrible audience 'cause it's just famous people, and famous people only like themselves," Davidson told his friend and fellow SNL alum Seth Meyers. Even Davidson himself admitted to not caring about sketches he wasn't featured in, with Meyers recalling how Davidson was the only one laughing during his pre-taped segment.
Despite the underwhelming audience, the SNL50 event was a who's who of comedy legends. OG cast members like Chevy Chase, Garrett Morris, Jane Curtin, and Laraine Newman took the stage, alongside other veterans like Adam Sandler, Amy Poehler, and Tina Fey. Even non-cast members like Sabrina Carpenter, Ryan Reynolds, and Emma Stone joined in the festivities.

One of the more unexpected pairings was Davidson sitting next to Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep. "Meryl rules," Davidson said, admitting he was surprised to find himself seated next to the legendary performer. "In typical SNL fashion, they don't tell you anything. You don't even know what's going on. I get to my seat and I just look and I'm like, 'This can't be right.'"
