18 Aug
Summary
- Peacemaker renewed for Season 2 despite DC Universe changes
- James Gunn committed to continuing the show's story
- Peacemaker to reunite with Justice Gang members in new season

In a major shakeup for the DC superhero franchise, the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) is coming to an end, and the DC Universe (DCU) is taking its place. However, one DCEU spinoff series, Peacemaker, has managed to secure a spot in the new DCU lineup.
Just one day before the Peacemaker Season 1 finale aired on HBO Max in February 2022, the show was renewed for a second season. This came as a surprise, given the impending changes to the DC universe. But according to actor Steve Agee, who plays John Economos, the show's creator, James Gunn, was determined to continue the Peacemaker story, even as the larger DCEU was being phased out.
Gunn, who also directed the 2021 film The Suicide Squad, from which Peacemaker was spun off, has taken on a leadership role at the new DC Studios. And he has ensured that Peacemaker, which he wrote and executive produced, will remain a part of the upcoming DC TV slate. The show's Season 2, set to premiere in 2025, will see the return of the main cast, including John Cena as the title character, as well as the introduction of new characters like Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl.
Despite the changes to the DC universe, Peacemaker's future appears secure, thanks to Gunn's commitment to the character and the show's loyal fanbase.
