Summary
- New Peacemaker episodes stream Thursdays on HBO Max
- Season 2 features cameos from Justice Gang members
- Showrunner James Gunn explains character dynamics and story arc

As of August 22nd, 2025, the second season of the DC series Peacemaker, starring John Cena, has begun streaming on HBO Max. The new episodes, which air weekly on Thursdays, continue the story of the title character as he grapples with his personal demons.
In an exclusive interview, Peacemaker showrunner James Gunn provided insights into the creative decisions behind the new season. Gunn explained that he chose to bring in several familiar faces from the recent blockbuster film The Suicide Squad, including members of the Justice Gang. The showrunner noted that these characters, who are "much meaner" than the more straightlaced Mr. Terrific, were the perfect foils to pick on Peacemaker.
Gunn further elaborated that the first season of the series was about the protagonist "coming to terms" with the motivations and "demons" that have driven him throughout his life. This new season, he says, is focused on Peacemaker "actually having to deal with those demons and confront them head-on."
As Peacemaker bridges the gap between the previous DCEU and the newly established DCU, Gunn hinted that only minor adjustments were needed to fully transition the show into the new cinematic universe. He joked that it was as simple as "taking out a couple of screws" and "putting in a couple of new screws" to ensure the series is "all good and dandy" moving forward.
