Nollywood Stars Shine in Elba's Directorial Debut at TIFF Shorts 2025

The 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Shorts program is set to showcase a diverse lineup of 48 short films from 28 countries around the world. The festival will feature several highly anticipated premieres, including Idris Elba's directorial debut Yardie, which was originally released in 2018.
In addition to Elba's film, the TIFF Shorts 2025 lineup will include the world premieres of The Contestant, featuring David Hasselhoff, and Disc, co-written and starring Victoria Ratermanis and Jim Cummings. The festival will also screen a number of acclaimed titles from the international festival circuit, such as the Palme d'Or winner I'm Glad You're Dead Now by Tawfeek Barhom and Ali by Adnan Al Rajeev, which won a Special Jury Mention.
The existing Best International and Best Canadian Short Film Awards will be joined by a new prize, the Best Animated Short Film Award, at this year's festival. The 2025 Short Cuts Awards jurors include cinematographer Ashley Iris Gill, Annecy Artistic Director Marcel Jean, and actor, writer, and director Connor Jessup.
