Netflix Hosts Surprise Sing-Along Screenings for Blockbuster K-Pop Animated Film
20 Aug
Summary
- Netflix partners with major theater chains for exclusive sing-along screenings
- KPop Demon Hunters on track to become most-viewed Netflix film ever
- Soundtrack also a hit, with songs reaching top of Billboard charts

As of August 20th, 2025, Netflix has delivered a surprise gift to the late-summer box office. The streaming giant, which has long been at odds with theater owners over exclusive release windows, is now partnering with major cinema chains to host special sing-along screenings of its hit animated film KPop Demon Hunters.
The movie, which debuted on Netflix in June, has quickly become one of the most-viewed titles on the platform. In a rare move, Netflix is allowing the film to have a theatrical run, with over 1,700 locations in the U.S. and Canada already booked for the sing-along events on April 23-24. Insiders report that as of last week, over 1,000 of these showtimes were already sold out.
The sing-along screenings are being embraced by the country's two largest theater circuits, Regal Cinemas and Cinemark Theatres, as well as Alamo Drafthouse and other major chains. This marks a significant shift in the ongoing tensions between Netflix and traditional movie theaters.

KPop Demon Hunters follows the adventures of a trio of K-pop superstars who use their secret identities as demon hunters to protect their fans. The film's soundtrack has also been a major hit, with songs like "Golden" reaching the top of the Billboard charts. Industry analysts predict the sing-along screenings could generate anywhere from $5 million to over $10 million at the North American box office.
