According to a recent interview, actress Lindsay Lohan, now 39 years old, had a difficult time bonding with her older "Mean Girls" costars when she led the 2004 film at the age of 17. Lohan revealed that Rachel McAdams, who played the head mean girl Regina George, was 25 during filming, while Lohan's fellow Plastics Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert were 17 and 21, respectively.
"It was hard because Rachel McAdams was so much older," Lohan recalled. "I was in school. Amanda and Lacey were all hanging out. It was hard for me to find where I fit in."
In contrast, the young stars of the upcoming "Freakier Friday" sequel, 16-year-old Julia Butters and 18-year-old Sophia Hammons, have developed a tight-knit bond. "She's my best friend in the entire world," Hammons said of Butters. "We see each other every single day. That's not even an exaggeration."
The actresses' close relationship has helped them portray the on-screen dynamic of soon-to-be stepsisters who initially dislike each other. "It gave us more room to play," Hammons explained, as the real-life friends knew their on-screen "spiteful" lines were not genuine.
Lohan's experience highlights the challenges young actors can face when working alongside more experienced costars. However, the strong bond between Butters and Hammons suggests a more supportive environment for the next generation of young talent.
