Kroi Blends Genres, Captivates Global Audiences with New Single "Method"

Japanese alternative rock band Kroi made waves with the release of their new single "Method" on July 16. The track, which will be featured as the opening theme for the anime series SAKAMOTO DAYS, showcases the band's powerful and genre-bending sound.

In a recent interview, the Kroi members shared insights into how their experiences performing overseas have shaped their musical evolution. Bassist Masanori Seki noted that the energetic concert culture in South Korea, with audience members waving banners and forming circle pits, was a "culture shock" compared to typical Japanese shows. Guitarist Yuki Hasebe also highlighted the different mindset he encountered abroad, where people judged music more on its "vibe" than technical prowess.

The band's keyboardist, Daiki Chiba, and drummer, Hidetomo Masuda, further elaborated on the contrasts in the recording process between Japan and the UK, where Kroi has done some work. They found the UK approach to be more collaborative and experimental, in contrast with the more meticulous "fair copy" mentality in Japan.

Vocalist Leo Uchida expressed his desire to connect with audiences worldwide through the raw power of Kroi's music, even when there is a language barrier. He sees the band's live performances in non-Japanese-speaking countries as a more "fundamental" form of communication.

Uchida also delved into the inspiration behind "Method," noting how the song's themes of heightened awareness and focus during intense moments mirror the narrative of the anime series it accompanies. The band's other new track, "Clay," is described as a "palette" showcasing Kroi's diverse musical colors and hinting at the group's future creative direction.

With their global outlook and genre-blending sound, Kroi is poised to captivate audiences both at home and abroad with their latest musical offerings.
