- Film grosses $18 million at box office, Netflix's first #1 movie
- Sequel planned to explore HUNTR/X girl group's backstories

In a remarkable achievement, the animated K-pop musical KPop Demon Hunters has become Netflix's most popular movie of all time. According to the latest data shared by Netflix on August 27, 2025, the film has amassed a staggering 236 million total views on the streamer's global most popular list.
The runaway success of KPop Demon Hunters also extends to the box office. Last weekend, Netflix brought the film to select theaters for a special two-day sing-along event, which grossed an estimated $18 million and made it Netflix's first movie to hit #1 at the box office.
The film, which premiered on June 20, 2025, centers on the K-pop girl group HUNTR/X, comprised of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, who moonlight as demon hunters. Together, they must face off against a rival boy band, the Saja Boys, who are disguised demons intent on stealing HUNTR/X's fanbase.
The film's director, Maggie Kang, expressed her surprise and pride at the movie's massive success. "Our goal has always been to create a K-pop group through the movie, but it was a dream, a long shot," she told Entertainment Weekly last month. "So to see HUNTR/X and Saja Boys on the charts... I feel so proud. It tells me we really pulled it off."
Kang also revealed that she already has material in mind for a sequel, which would delve deeper into the backstories of the HUNTR/X members and how they became demon hunters.
