Jurassic World Rebirth Crosses $766M Globally, but Fails to Reach Franchise Highs
4 Aug
Summary
- Jurassic World Rebirth has grossed $766 million worldwide
- It underperforms compared to previous Jurassic films
- Universal's early digital release strategy may have hurt box office momentum

Jurassic World Rebirth, the latest installment in the Jurassic franchise, has been stomping through theaters for over a month, but its box office performance has fallen short of expectations. As of early August 2025, the film has grossed around $766 million worldwide, placing it ahead of titles like Mufasa: The Lion King and The Matrix Reloaded.
However, it is clear that Rebirth won't hit the same highs as its predecessors. The film opened to a mixed reception and has settled with a mediocre 51% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics pointing out that it recycles old formulas. Despite the respectable global haul, the movie is unlikely to reach the billion-dollar peak once managed by earlier Jurassic entries.
The studio's decision to put the digital release so close to the theatrical run may have hurt Rebirth's longer-term box office momentum. Universal has done this before, as they released The Fall Guy to digital only 17 days after its theatrical debut, which triggered criticism. In contrast, they kept Oppenheimer in theaters for months, allowing it time to grow, but Rebirth does not seem to have gotten the same patience.
