Horror Hit "Weapons" Dominates, "Freakier Friday" Holds Steady
17 Aug
Summary
- "Weapons" maintains top spot with impressive $25M second weekend
- "Freakier Friday" drops 50% but holds at #2 with $14.5M
- "Nobody 2" opens to lukewarm $9.25M, failing to expand fanbase

In the waning days of the summer box office, Warner Bros./New Line's horror film "Weapons" has maintained its dominance, grossing $25 million in its second weekend. While not matching the spectacular 3% drop of fellow Warner horror hit "Sinners" earlier this year, "Weapons" still managed an impressive 43% decline from its $43.5 million opening. The film now stands with an $89 million domestic total and $148.8 million worldwide.
Holding steady at the #2 spot is Disney's "Freakier Friday," which saw a 50% drop from its $28.5 million opening, grossing $14.5 million this weekend. The legacyquel now has a $54.8 million domestic and $86.3 million global total against a $42 million budget.
The sole newcomer to the top 5 is Universal's "Nobody 2," the sequel to the Bob Odenkirk action comedy that was one of the first films to hit theaters when they reopened in 2021. While the original "Nobody" opened to $6.8 million, the sequel has failed to significantly expand the fanbase, opening to a lukewarm $9.25 million.
