Summary
- James Gunn needed a strong actor to play Jor-El, Superman's father
- Gunn cast Bradley Cooper, who previously worked with Gunn on "Guardians"
- Cooper's performance aims to capture the stature of Marlon Brando's Jor-El

In his upcoming "Superman" film, director James Gunn has cast Bradley Cooper in the pivotal role of Jor-El, the father of the iconic superhero. Gunn explains that he needed an actor with the gravitas and presence to capture the essence of Marlon Brando's portrayal of Jor-El in the original 1978 "Superman" movie.
Gunn, who has previously worked with Cooper on the "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy, says the actor was the perfect fit for the part. "He's a friend," Gunn noted, "and I admire him greatly as an actor and as a director." The director reached out to Cooper and asked him to travel to England to film the Jor-El scenes in a 3D environment, creating a holographic version of the character.
Joining Cooper in the cast are David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as the villainous Lex Luthor. Other notable cast members include Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and a host of other familiar DC characters.
