Summary
- Actor celebrates first Emmy nomination for The Penguin series
- Excited to read upcoming script, calls writer "extraordinary"
- Heard discussions about a potential second season, but not confirmed

Colin Farrell, the acclaimed actor known for his roles in films like The Banshees of Inisherin, is celebrating his first Emmy nomination today for his work in the Batman HBO DC Studios spinoff series, The Penguin. Farrell, who is currently on the set of Apple TV+'s season 2 of Sugar, expressed his excitement about the upcoming script for The Penguin, praising the show's writer, Matt Reeves, as an "extraordinary" and "highly intelligent artist."
The actor revealed that while a second season of The Penguin hasn't been officially confirmed, he has heard discussions about exploring what that might look like. Farrell, who has already won Best Actor Drama Series awards at the SAGs, Critics Choice, and Golden Globes for his performance, said the series was always intended to be an eight-hour limited run. However, the actor has loved the opportunity to break out the villain of Oz Cobb, transforming the character from a caricature into a "full blooded, bleeding, complex anti-hero."
Farrell believes that the introduction of Oz's mother, played by Deirdre O'Connell, has been a key factor in humanizing the character and providing a deeper backstory that informs his motivations and actions. As the actor noted, "anytime you drop a family member in, or particularly anytime you drop a mother, into a son's story, you humanize that character instantly."
