Elephant Sculpture Honors Lost Loved Ones in Leicester Charity Trail

As part of LOROS Hospice's 40th anniversary celebrations, the organization has launched the Stomp Round Leicester art trail, featuring 40 elephant sculptures designed by local artists. One of these sculptures, titled "Remember Me" and created by artist Anna Shutt, is now serving as a touching memorial for those who have passed away.

The "Remember Me" elephant, located outside the LOROS charity shop in Leicester's High Street, is covered in photo frames that can be inscribed with the names of lost loved ones in exchange for a donation. According to Shutt, the artwork is "a wonderful canvas to inscribe the name of someone special to you," and as more names are added, it becomes "a beautiful commemoration to all the special people we miss."

LOROS, which worked with Wild in Art to create the Stomp Round Leicester trail, hopes that the "Remember Me" sculpture will provide comfort and happy memories for those grieving. As Andrew Ward, the hospice's events lead, explains, "Elephants never forget, and neither do we. We hope Remember Me is a lovely tribute to those we hold dearly."

At the end of the 10-week trail, the 40 elephant sculptures will be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to support LOROS Hospice and its services. The organization has recently faced funding challenges, leading to the reduction of some inpatient and day therapy offerings, but it hopes that initiatives like the Stomp Round Leicester trail will help secure its long-term future.
