Debutant Director Mahesh Ravikumar Delivers Gripping Thriller 'Bandook'

Mahesh Ravikumar's debut film 'Bandook' is a smart, tightly-knit crime thriller that blends multiple timelines and genres. The story follows two parallel narratives - one involving a serial killer case investigated by IPS officer Roopa Rudhra Rao, and another centered around an orphanage run by Advaitha. As these two storylines intersect, the film raises intriguing questions about the murders and the dark secrets hidden within the orphanage.

While the execution falters in some crucial portions, 'Bandook' showcases Ravikumar's potential as a promising writer-director. The film's strongest assets are its performances, particularly by Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Balaji Manohar, and Shwetha Prasad, who deliver compelling portrayals. The cinematography by HY Rohith Kumaar and the music by Prasanna Kumar also elevate the viewing experience.

However, the dialogue and editing could have been tighter, with some moments feeling overloaded and exhausting. Ravikumar's attempt to cater to the masses through forced elevation moments also clashes with the grounded world he had effectively constructed.
