Carrie Coon to Star in Broadway Revival of Husband's Thriller 'Bug' in 2026

In a highly anticipated move, acclaimed actress Carrie Coon is returning to the Broadway stage in 2026 to star in the Main Stem premiere of the psychological horror-thriller 'Bug'. The play, written by Coon's husband Tracy Letts, was first staged in London in 1996 and has since been produced multiple times, including an Off-Broadway run in 2004 and a well-received 2020 production at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago.

The upcoming Broadway revival, directed by Tony Award winner David Cromer, will feature the full cast from the Steppenwolf staging, including Coon in the lead role of Agnes, a lonely waitress. Joining her will be Namir Smallwood, Randall Arney, Jennifer Engstrom and Steve Key. Performances are set to begin on December 17, 2025, with the official opening night on January 8, 2026 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.

'Bug', which was previously adapted into a 2006 film starring Michael Shannon, Ashley Judd and Harry Connick Jr., follows the intense and chaotic relationship between Agnes and a drifter named Peter. What starts as a tentative connection quickly descends into paranoia, delusion and conspiracy as the two become increasingly isolated in a seedy Oklahoma motel room.

Letts, a Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, expressed his enthusiasm for the production, calling it "scary and funny and intimate" and praising the talented cast. Manhattan Theatre Club Artistic Director Lynne Meadow also highlighted the play's ability to "provoke thoughtful conversation and remind us of theatre's power to reveal the invisible forces that shape our world."
