Bollywood Singer Shilpa Rao Taps into Character's Vulnerability

Bollywood singer Shilpa Rao has once again proven her ability to bring a character's emotions to life through her powerful vocals. In a recent interview, Rao discussed the recording process for "Barbaad," a hauntingly beautiful track from the film "Saiyaara."

Rao revealed that the recording session took place in pitch darkness, with only a spotlight on the lyrics. This unique setting allowed her to fully immerse herself in the song's emotional depth. "That space, just me, my thoughts, and the music—it helped me sink into the song," Rao said.

But it wasn't just the atmospheric setting that challenged the singer. The character's emotional complexity, including her innocence, fear, and passion, also pushed Rao to deliver a nuanced performance. "When we started recording, [director] Mohit [Suri] told me that Vaani Batra is a writer. She's extremely young, full of emotions, but also innocent. She's afraid, nervous to fall in love, and yet she's already in love," Rao recalled.
