Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is taking a bold step to bring his films directly to audiences across India and the world. Khan has announced that he will be releasing his latest sports drama 'Sitaare Zameen Par' on his YouTube channel Aamir Khan Talkies through a pay-per-view model starting August 1.
Khan explained that this move is driven by his desire to reach a much larger segment of the population beyond the 3-3.5 crore people who typically watch Hindi films in theaters. With only around 8,500-9,000 screens in India, compared to 35,000 in the US and 90,000 in China, Khan recognized the need for a more accessible distribution model.
By offering 'Sitaare Zameen Par' for ₹100 in India and tailored pricing in 38 other countries including the US, UK, and Australia, Khan hopes to make his films available to viewers in even the most remote villages and homes. The pay-per-view approach, enabled by the growth of digital payments and widespread YouTube usage, allows audiences to watch the film at their convenience.
Khan believes this innovative model will not only expand the reach of his films but also help combat piracy. He has appointed anti-piracy teams to remove any unauthorized links, and the affordable pay-per-view option provides a legitimate alternative for viewers.
