The Chinese film market showed signs of softening in the days leading up to the crucial Lunar New Year holiday. The top five films were all holdovers, indicating a quiet period before the major holiday releases.
"Busted Water Pipes" secured the second position with $2.5 million, bringing its total to $14 million. "The Fire Raven" followed in third place, earning $2.1 million for a cumulative gross of $65.5 million.
"Avatar: Fire and Ash" ranked fourth with $1.8 million, reaching $164.8 million in China. "Return to Silent Hill" completed the top five, earning $1.3 million for a total of $17.3 million.
Collectively, the Chinese box office grossed $17.6 million over the weekend. This year's revenue is currently at $318 million, marking an 84.4% decrease compared to the same period last year, as the industry anticipates the Lunar New Year holiday corridor.
