On October 6, 2025, Zelda Williams, the 36-year-old filmmaker and daughter of the late actor Robin Williams, took to her Instagram Stories to ask fans to stop sending her AI-generated videos of her father. Williams passed away 11 years ago, but a disturbing trend has emerged where people use AI generators to create videos of deceased celebrities, including her father.
In a strongly-worded message, Williams described these videos as "disgusting, over-processed hotdogs" that are being "shoved down social media users' throats, hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it." She emphasized that she does not want to see these videos and that they are "not what he'd want."
Williams went on to denounce the practice of using AI to recreate the legacies of real people, calling it "maddening" to watch them be "condensed down to 'This vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough,' just so other people can churn out horrible TikTok splo puppeteering them."
This is not the first time Williams has spoken out against the use of AI to exploit her father's image and voice. In October 2023, she voiced her concerns during the SAG-AFTRA strike, stating that she has "witnessed for YEARS how many people want to train these models to create/recreate actors who cannot consent, like Dad."
