Zelda Williams Battles AI Deepfakes of Dad Robin

Zelda Williams has strongly condemned the use of artificial intelligence to create videos that falsely attribute messages to her late father, Robin Williams. She recently addressed a circulating AI-generated video purportedly showing the comedian discussing conspiracy theories, stating that the voice was clearly artificial and unconvincing.

Williams expressed her frustration not only with those who believed the fake video but also with the creators. She argued that using AI to make a deceased person say things they never did is manipulative. She highlighted that if one cannot win an argument without using a dead celebrity, it raises questions about who is truly misleading the public.

This is not the first time Zelda Williams has spoken out against AI replicating her father. In October 2025, she had previously found it disturbing to hear AI tools mimicking Robin's voice, especially since he could no longer provide consent. She stated her personal involvement in SAG's fight against AI, citing her experience with numerous individuals wanting to recreate actors who cannot consent.

She further emphasized the broader implications for living performers, who deserve the autonomy to create characters and use their human effort in their performances. Williams requested fans to stop sending her such AI-generated videos, describing the content as 'disgusting' and disheartening to see real people's legacies reduced to mere visual and auditory imitations for online content.

Robin Williams, known for iconic roles in films like Aladdin and Good Will Hunting, passed away on August 11, 2014, at the age of 63. He was the father of three children, including Zelda.
