Elvira Dyangani Ose, a prominent Spanish art curator and museum director, has been appointed the new artistic director of the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) in Cape Town. She most recently served as the director of Barcelona's Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA).
Dyangani Ose, who has global experience including curatorial roles at Tate Modern and Creative Time, will succeed Koyo Kouoh. Kouoh, who passed away suddenly in May 2025, was credited with stabilizing the institution and bridging social divisions in Cape Town.
Dyangani Ose's appointment, effective October 1, signals a continuation of Kouoh's ambition to foster a publicly engaged, Pan-African museum. She plans to expand the museum's artistic reach through exhibitions, research, and artist collaborations, emphasizing its role as a vital public institution accountable to its audience.
She also holds a significant role as the artistic director for the upcoming Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial, set to open on October 23. Dyangani Ose is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in art history at Cornell University.
