Zara Larsson ineligible for Best New Artist Grammy

Zara Larsson's fifth studio album, "Midnight Sun," released in September 2025, has positioned her for potential Grammy nominations at the 2027 awards. Despite this, she is ineligible for the coveted Best New Artist award. Larsson herself expressed no desire for this nomination, stating it would downplay her extensive 13-year career as an artist.

Her ineligibility stems from a prior nomination. The track "Midnight Sun" was nominated for Best Dance Pop Recording at the 2026 Grammy Awards. According to Recording Academy rules, artists previously nominated as performers cannot be considered for Best New Artist, with exceptions for featured or collaborative roles on compilations or other artists' albums.

Larsson recently inked a new deal with RCA Records, departing Epic Records after over a decade. She views her current success as a "breakthrough," with her music and associated culture resonating widely with her audience, culminating in a desire for a stadium world tour.
