Stand-up comedian Zakir Khan recently clarified the true reason behind his ongoing break from live tours, which began earlier this year.
Addressing speculation, Khan explained at a Spoken Fest that the hiatus is to focus on extensive writing work he has postponed for the past six years. He asserted that his health is not severely impacted, dismissing internet rumors as false and baseless. Khan also noted that his family, with whom he lives, has no knowledge of any such issues being reported.
Khan initially announced his scaling back of performances in January during a show in Hyderabad, suggesting the break could range from three to five years. He had cited health concerns and personal matters as reasons at the time. He emphasized that the decision was not taken lightly and aims to allow him to concentrate on his postponed writing commitments.
Zakir Khan previously made history in the previous year by performing a Hindi-language show at New York City's Madison Square Garden, entertaining an audience of 6,000. He gained initial fame in 2012 after winning Comedy Central's India's Best Stand-Up competition and has since released popular specials.
